The Choir and Dixie Band of Pretoria Boys High will be touring through North-West Province during August for concerts with amongst others the North-West Youth Choir. Their concert tour will also include a free lunch hour concert on Monday 24 August 2015 at 13:10 in the Conservatory Hall in Potchefstroom.
Pretoria Boys High is one of the oldest schools in Gauteng and choral singing is one of the many activities offered and supported by the school. The choir is part of a very active music department which includes the orchestra, Dixie Band, big band and many other ensembles. Lhente-Mari Pitout, alumna of the NWU School of Music, has been the choir conductor since 2010.
The choir sings music ranging from classical to contemporary genres, and they have won gold awards in regional and national choral competitions.
The Dixie Band performs regularly throughout Gauteng and the rest of South Africa and has undertaken tours to Réunion, Spain and France. Niel van der Watt has been the conductor and organiser since 1988.
I saw the performance of the Dixie Band on Monday at the Faculty of Education on the Groenkloof Campus. I was very impressed and enjoyed the performance very much.
I would like to know it you have a CD available to listen to the music of the Dixie Band.
