Since 2011, the NWU School of Music has presented annual concerts featuring all the student ensemble groups at the Conservatory. Due to the number and size of these ensembles, this year’s performances will be presented in three separate concerts over six days.
• The first occasion is a free lunch hour concert on Thursday 11 September at 13:10-14:00 in the Amphitheatre on the Potchefstroom campus. It will feature the marimba ensemble, one of the jazz ensembles, and Pioneer Brass.
• The concert on Sunday 14 September at 15:30 in the Conservatory Hall will include the New Music Ensemble, other jazz ensembles, and smaller vocal groups.
• At the final Spring Ensemble Concert on Tuesday 16 September at 19:30 in the Conservatory Hall, it will be the turn of the bigger ensembles such as the North-West Youth Orchestra, wind ensemble, string ensemble and Conservatory Choir.
A short documentary video about one of the previous ensemble concerts can be viewed at the School of Music’s YouTube channel and gives a good idea of what the audience can expect to hear.
Tickets for the Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening concerts are available at the Conservatory in Thabo Mbeki Drive (tel. 018-299-1692), PUK-Arts in the Heimat Building (F9) on the university campus (tel. 018-299-2844), Protea Book Shop on the Bult (tel. 018-297-1583), online at www.artema.co.za and www.facebook.com/NWU.Music, or 30 minutes before the concert at the box office.
