Hi what happens if u can’t read music but will like to attend school there and you are undergraduate.again is there a busary for being in the school?and again do u have marimba? I just started playing trumpet this year so I think I don’t have much experience is it still fine to play trumpet there even though its not long playing it? Thank you
The Diploma in Music doesn’t require any previous formal musical training. Your musical aptitude will be tested instead.
Information about bursaries and financial support can be found at: http://www.nwu.ac.za/content/about-fss
The School of Music does have a marimba ensemble.
You can continue with trumpet as the main instrument of your programme.
do you really need matric as an entrence to study music?
Matric is required for any study at any university. To continue to tertiary education, you have to finish secondary education (high school) first.
But if one has applied yet hasn’t yet received any response from the varsity, what then?
A response was sent to your gmail address last night at 19:24.
So if I wanna apply.which subjects are compulsary? And when is the closing datin for the application?
You need to have passed Matric with a minimum APS of 15 and at least a D for English.
The closing date for applications is in the first sentence: 15 August 2014.

I would like to enrol my son for the Diploma in Music, he can however not play any musical instrument, he does how ever produce music on his laptop. Will he still qualify?
The studying of a music instrument is a major and important part of all our programmes. Although the Diploma in Music doesn’t require formal musical training, most prospective students have musical background anyway and due to limited spaces for enrolment, it’s rare that we will accept someone who can’t play an instrument already. Also, we don’t offer sound engineering, music production, DJ-ing, etc. as part of our programmes. Your son will probably be better served by a teaching institution that specializes in those fields.
My application status is condit admitted in music
I haven’t see anything asking about auditions so what does that mean?
Mhhm i don’t know nothing about notification so I’m going to write placement test
What happens if you have been asked to apply for audition in Diploma of Music but you can’t play any instrument?
Then you should probably sing.
HI I CANT PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT I HAVE ONLY MY VOICE,IS RAP AN SINGING ALLOWED? THEN WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE AUDITION ?
We don’t offer rap, but you can audition for singing.
