Reported by Ms Rineke Viljoen, liaison for the NWU-KMH exchange programme
The NWU School of Music is proud to continue its longstanding academic exchange partnership with the Royal College of Music (KMH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Running since 2007, this international academic collaboration has opened doors for many music students and academics to engage with global perspectives on music education, performance, and research.
The programme has once again secured funding for the next three years. This support enables a total of nine NWU students to complete a semester of studies in Stockholm, while nine NWU lecturers will have the opportunity to teach in Stockholm for three weeks at a time. In return, three KMH lecturers will be hosted annually at the Conservatory. Although the funding does not currently extend to support KMH students studying at NWU, the impact of the programme remains profound. Students will be immersed in a high level of music-making, exposed to a vibrant cultural calendar, and introduced to new approaches to teaching and learning. For many, it is a life-changing experience with lasting effects.
Lillian van Staden, Lamees Matwadia, and Samuel Nku [above, left to right] have been selected to depart in August 2025 to complete a semester of study in Stockholm, returning in mid-January 2026. We wish them well on their journey!
