As part of the ongoing collaboration between NWU and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH), we had the privilege of hosting three distinguished colleagues from KMH for an academic visit at the end of February.

Prof Eva Nivbrant Wedin, a specialist in Music Education and Dalcroze Eurhythmics, presented engaging workshops in Music Theory, Music Education, and Aural Training. Her teaching offered an embodied and experiential approach to musical understanding, enriching students’ engagement with rhythm, movement, and expression.

Dr Anna Backman-Bister contributed to themes of inclusive teaching and community engagement, reinforcing the role of music in broader social contexts. She also facilitated academic writing workshops and presented additional sessions.

Prof Bo Rosenkull worked across several departments, including brass, choral conducting, and vocal studies. His workshops on breathing for brass students, the application of Laban technique in choral conducting, and his work with vocal students provided valuable practical tools and perspectives.

Beyond formal teaching, the visit was marked by strong collegial engagement. The Swedish lecturers were warmly integrated into the life of the School of Music, attending concerts and participating in academic and social activities, which created valuable opportunities for dialogue and strengthened professional relationships. The programme also included cultural engagement, with visits to a local dance group in Ikageng, and opportunities to reconnect with colleagues and build new relationships within the NWU community.
