Two wind ensembles from neighbouring cities, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp, will join forces for a concert on Wednesday 27 August 2014 at 19:30 in the Conservatory Hall in Potchefstroom. The Zephyros Symphonic Wind Orchestra from the North-West Musikon in Klerksdorp and the NWU Wind Ensemble will each perform a number of pieces under their respective conductors. After the interval, the two wind bands will merge to entertain the audience with music by film composer John Williams and the “Grand March” from Aida by Verdi.

The Zephyros Symphonic Wind Orchestra originated in 1987 and Mr Nesco du Toit is still their conductor after 27 years. With the establishment of the North-West Musikon in 2009 it found a permanent home. In comparison, the NWU Wind Ensemble is only in its fourth year of existence, comprising of approximately 30 students from the School of Music. It is conducted by two Masters degree students, Augusto Arias and André Oosthuizen, and managed by Ms Yvonne-Marié Brand.
