Two of the doctoral performance students at the School of Music will each present a solo piano concert on Friday 16 May 2014 in the Conservatory Hall as part of the requirements for the DMus degree.
Mr Waldo Weyer (photo above), piano lecturer at the School of Music, will start at 11:00 with a programme that includes Franz Schubert’s Piano Sonata in B-flat major, D960, the first Scherzo in b minor, Op. 20 by Frédéric Chopin, and contemporary American composer George Crumb’s The Processional.
Ms Elize Kruger (main photo), head of the music department at Jeppe High School for Girls, will present two piano concertos, starting at 14:00: Mozart’s famous Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K467 (generally known as the Elvira Madigan), and Felix Mendelssohn’s second Piano Concerto in g minor, Op. 25. She will be accompanied on piano by Dr Tinus Botha. Her programme concludes with the third Scherzo in c-sharp minor, Op. 39 by Chopin.
Entrance is free and the general public is welcome to attend the performances. Please be seated at least 5 minutes before the start of each concert.
