A sizeable delegation from the NWU School of Music attended this conference at Stellenbosch University from 22 to 24 July. Apart from his duties as President of the NATS South Africa Chapter, Prof Conroy Cupido also presented a paper, conducted Classical singing masterclasses, and participated in a panel discussion, as well as a conversation with South African composer, Hendrik Hofmeyr. Dr Jaco Meyer was also included in this conversation, which featured a performance by Dr Thomas Erlank. Dr Erlank also presented a lecture-recital on the setting of his own poems by Hendrik Hofmeyr, and another paper on post music performance anxiety.
CCM and musical theatre was also represented in lecture-recitals by, respectively, Ms Monique Hellenberg and Dr Michelle Pretorius, accompanied by Prof Catrien Wentink; and Dr Pretorius conducted her own CCM masterclasses. Finally, Prof Chris van Rhyn provided a musicological perspective on Priaulx Rainier’s Cycle for Declamation (1953) for solo tenor or soprano.

Bravo Jaco! Heel trots op je.
