NWU School of Music & Conservatory Bursary Competition 2025
Rules & Regulations
- Only music students registered for a practical module and registered Conservatory students may participate in the bursary competition.
- Students may only enter the instrument/voice for which they are registered.
- The auditions for this year’s bursary competition will be held in the Organ Hall on Friday, 5 September 2025 and 6 September 2025 (depending on the number of entries)
- Entry forms for the bursary competition are available online at: https://nwumusic.co.za/2025-bursary-competition/
- Two contrasting works (or part thereof, e.g., a movement from a concerto or sonata) with a minimum total duration of 7 minutes and a maximum of 15 minutes must be presented for the audition.
- Ensemble groups may not include any music lecturers or persons who are not music students registered for a practical module or registered Conservatory students.
- Entries for the bursary competition close on Friday, 29 August 2025 at 17:00. No late or incomplete entries will be accepted.
- Please ensure that your accompanist is available on Friday, 5 September 2025. Participants must be available on the audition day.
- Depending on the number of applicants, students and accompanists must also be available to audition on Saturday, 6 September 2025, if necessary.
- All bursary competition entrants are to participate in either one of the Student Concerts scheduled on 28 August and 4 September 2025.
- Final audition times will be announced in the week of 1 September 2025.
- The names of the bursary winners will be announced in the week of 15 September 2025, together with the item(s) to be performed at the Bursary Winners’ Concert on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 at 18:30.
- Bursary winners must be available for a photo session on Thursday, 25 September 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00 in the Organ Hall, wearing concert attire and bringing their instruments (if applicable).
- Finalists must be available for the Student Concerts on Thursday, 25 September 2025.
- Finalists must perform at the Bursary Winners’ Concert on the evening of 30 September 2025.
