2021 Application for selection

Applications for music study close on 31 August 2020.

Applications for undergraduate music study at the NWU School of Music in 2022 are now OPEN!

Thank you for your interest in studying at the NWU School of Music. Please read the following instructions carefully to ensure a smooth application process.

The process to be admitted to undergraduate music study at North-West University consists of two successive parts, with a separate application for each of these parts.

FIRST — a prospective student must apply for general admission to North-West University.

THEN — a prospective student must apply for an audition and other selection procedures at the NWU School of Music.

The selection process will only start once both these applications have been completed.

 


 

Closing date for applications

The closing date for applications for all music programmes is 31 JULY AUGUST 2021. Your application for general admission to North-West University
AND your application for selection at the NWU School of Music
AND the submission of audition videos must therefore be completed by 31 JULY AUGUST 2021.
NO late applications after the closing date will be considered.

FIRST — Application for admission to the North-West University

Before starting with the application for an audition at the NWU School of Music, each prospective student must FIRST complete an online application for general admission to North-West University at http://studies.nwu.ac.za/studies/apply During this application process you will receive a provisional student number which you will need in order to apply for an audition at the NWU School of Music. You cannot submit the application for selection without this student number.

THEN — Application for selection at the NWU School of Music

Once you have applied for general admission to the North-West University and have received a student number, you can upload/send your audition videos and continue with the application for an audition at the NWU School of Music (see instructions and requirements below).

 


 

Audition & selection process

Auditions and selection this year will only be conducted online. In the first round of selection, candidates will be selected based on the minimum entry requirements and their audition videos.

Candidates must create two audition videos per instrument that comply with the selection requirements of the specific programme (see the Application Guide for full details). Before the videos are uploaded/submitted each must be renamed to:

NAME & SURNAME – STUDENT NUMBER – INSTRUMENT – VIDEO 1 OR 2
e.g. John Legend – 35145967 – piano – video 1

Application for selection/audition

After you have uploaded/submitted your audition videos, you can apply for an audition. Please ensure that you have the following information and documents available before you start with the application:

  • Your own personal contact details
  • An electronic copy of your ID document to upload
  • Contact details for your parents / guardians
  • Your provisional student number (issued when you applied for general admission to the NWU)
  • Your current AP Score (use this APS calculator to determine your score)
  • An electronic copy of your current academic record (e.g. current Matric marks / Matric certificate / current tertiary academic record) to upload
