On Tuesday 6 September 2016 at 19:30 two very different yet closely related musical idioms will share the stage of the Conservatory Hall: the Wind Ensemble conducted by André Oosthuizen, and the Big Band led by Justin Sasman.
The former Director of the NWU School of Music, Prof Karendra Devroop, established a wind ensemble at Die Wilge High School in Potchefstroom in 2012 as part of his South African Music Outreach Project. Due to the number and size of these ensembles, this year’s performances will again be presented in three separate concerts on consecutive days. Two wind ensembles from neighbouring cities, Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp, will join forces for a concert on Wednesday 27 August 2014 at 19:30 in the Conservatory Hall in Potchefstroom. The Zephyros Symphonic Wind Orchestra from the North-West Musikon in Klerksdorp and the NWU Wind Ensemble will each perform a number of pieces under their respective conductors.
