Spring Ensemble performances now in three concerts — 11, 14 & 16 September 2014

Since 2011, the NWU School of Music has presented annual concerts featuring all the student ensemble groups at the Conservatory. Due to the number and size of these ensembles, this year’s performances will be presented in three separate concerts over six days. • The first occasion is a free lunch hour concert on Thursday 11 September at 13:10-14:00 in the Amphitheatre on the Potchefstroom campus. It will feature the marimba.

Lecturers from the School of Music and the Faculty of Engineering collaborated on a project this year to develop music instruments from scrap materials. The project culminated in a performance by the North-West Youth Orchestra at Engineering’s project day where the “home made” music instruments could be heard alongside professional instruments. Mr Hannes du Toit, facilitator for project-based teaching in the Faculty of Engineering was introduced to Dr Liesl van.
