The NWU School of Music has increased the number of concerts in its official concert series for this year by a third, with 8 concerts that will be presented in Potchefstroom during March, April and May. As usual, it caters for a wide variety of interests and tastes.

It's a Potchpourri! World!For the 25th year, Potchpourri! opens the concert series — on Tuesday 8 March — with jazz, cabaret, big band, musicals, PDQ Bach, beatbox, Victor Borge, The Simpsons … It’s all part of the wonderful Potchpourri! world!

A special concert in the Dutch Reformed Church Miederpark on Tuesday 15 March will celebrate Easter through words and music.

Miki Aoki ~ pianoPiano lovers are spoilt with two recitals by local and international virtuosos: Miki Aoki (photo above) on Tuesday 12 April, and School of Music piano lecturer Tinus Botha (photo below) on Sunday 8 May (at 15:30).

Papilio on Tuesday 19 April is a visual and tantalising multi-media collaborative performance, blending acoustic instruments (marimba, vibraphone and percussion) and live electronics, featuring masterful compositions from various eras.

Doep is nie dood nieThe life and work of legendary Afrikaans songwriter, Koos du Plessis, will be celebrated on Tuesday 3 May in a one-man production entitled Doep is nie dood nie by another renowned Afrikaans musician, Jannie du Toit.

Guitar aficionados will enjoy Spanish, South American and Cuban music as performed by James Grace (photo at the top) on Tuesday 17 May.

Ensemble Extravaganza, part 1Closing the first semester, the School of Music will showcase some of its student ensembles in an Ensemble Extravaganza, part 1 on Tuesday 24 May (with the second part on Tuesday 20 September).

All concerts take place at 19:30 in the Conservatory Hall, unless indicated otherwise.

Last year’s ticket prices
Ticket prices stay unchanged and affordable at R90/R60* for the concerts on 12 & 19 April and 3 & 17 May, and the other concerts at only R75/R50*. ( * The discounted price is for pensioners, NWU staff and students, and children under 18.)
