Three performance lecturers and a doctoral piano student from the NWU School of Music will perform in two chamber music concerts during this year’s Clover Aardklop National Arts Festival in Potchefstroom.

The first is an all-Russian programme of three piano trios from the 19th and 20th century on Tuesday 7 October at 17:00 in the kykNET Conservatory Hall. Doctoral piano student, Olga Tsihelashvili, will perform with violinist Piet Koornhof and Human Coetzee on cello. The “Trio in one movement” by female composer, Gayene Chebotarian, is in an accessible, late-Romantic style, with typical Armenian qualities reminiscent of Khatchaturian. Gyorgy Sviridov’s “Trio in a minor” shows a definite influence of his teacher, Shostakovich, and includes a gripping funeral march. The much earlier “Trio no. 1 in d minor” by Anton Arensky is pure Romanticism with soaring melodies and a joyous Scherzo.

Tickets are available at Computicket: R120 for the Russian Piano Trios.
