Helgaard Steyn Award — Biggest composition prize in South Africa

The Helgaard Steyn Awards have been offered annually since 1987 for exceptional works of art created in the preceding four years. The award is offered on a rotating basis for composition, painting, Afrikaans literature and sculpture. This year, the award will again be presented to a South African composer of art music (“serious music”) for a work or works that had been composed in 2010-2013 and have also been performed.

Proposals for concerts in 2015

The NWU School of Music annually presents about 15-20 concerts at the Conservatory in its official concert series. This usually includes a wide variety of performances, from solo instruments and singing to chamber music groups and orchestras. The styles range from classical to indigenous music, jazz and popular music. The planning of the concert series for 2015 starts in September of this year already, and performers and agents are therefore.
