The New Music Ensemble at the NWU School of Music will close the concert series for the first semester with a free lunch hour concert on Tuesday 27 May 2014 at 13:15 in the Pretorius Music Studio at the Conservatory. The New Music Ensemble consists of staff and students from the School of Music and is conducted by its founder, Argentinean Master’s student in composition, Au Arias.

The purpose of the New Music Ensemble is to focus on works from the 20th and 21st century and to give the first performances of works by young composers. Their programme for this lunch hour concert reflects their aim, presenting works by famous composers such as Luciano Berio (O King) and Arnold Schoenberg (Pierrot Lunaire), as well as a work by Arias himself, Divan de Chloe. The Finnish composer, Kaija Saariaho, is also represented in a performance of her Die Aussicht.

Entry is free, but seating is limited.
